The University of Notre Dame wanted a mobile-friendly productivity and collaboration platform that was available from anywhere at any time. Here’s a firsthand account of how the school achieved that with Google Workspace and Onix.
Notre Dame faculty and staff made the notable move to Google Workspace for email and calendaring services. They joined Notre Dame students that have used Google Workspace since 2008. The university is excited about the ways that Google Workspace provides our community with mobile-friendly services that are available from anywhere in the world on any platform plus a single calendar service for everyone on our campus.
Onix led the technical aspects of our migration and guided us through managing this change for our campus. When we first set out on this journey, we faced a massive amount of information that needed to be moved — more than 15,000 accounts and over 10TB of data. With support from Onix, we successfully moved that data from our campus email system to Google Workspace in less than four months. The Onix team’s expertise with Google Workspace and the migration process was instrumental to this success.
The Notre Dame community was excited and prepared for this change, with over 450 support staff ready to assist with the transition. Our campus IT staff was trained and ready to support the campus community. We supplemented them with Google Guides in each department and offered more than 100 instructor-led training sessions. The campus community also had access to a multitude of online videos and tutorials provided by Onix.
We complemented all of these efforts with a marketing campaign that included email messages, posters and special events designed to generate awareness and excitement around the move to Google.
Faculty and staff across campus quickly identified ways in which they could more easily collaborate with our students now that everyone is working in Google Workspace — from using Google Calendar Appointment Slots for advising and office hours to co-authoring and sharing Google Docs and Google Sheets. Google Workspace continues to provide us with reliable and feature-rich enterprise services that will continue to grow and change with our campus.
