Beck Taxi, a 50+ year-old company in Toronto, has between 1,500 and 2,000 taxi cabs on the road in the greater Toronto area at any given time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The company has traditionally used two-way radio communication between drivers and central dispatch — 13 frequencies in a big call center. Dispatchers couldn’t keep up with increasing ridership. Peak periods were getting increasingly busier, causing excessive wait times for riders. Company executives knew it was time to elevate the dispatch system to the cloud.
