Cloud Solution Gives Top Lab High Data Availability 4

The Wisconsin-based firm’s existing data center provider lacked the necessary server uptime to keep Cannon & Dunphy’s team doing the work it needed to do. This hindered the firm’s productivity and projected billable hours.

The managing partners knew improving server accessibility and reliability would reduce costs caused by these outages. They believed a cloud solution could be the right answer, but they needed to ensure that it would work with the firm’s existing Microsoft operating system.

During this process, three different consulting firms failed to complete a successful migration. That’s when Onix took over.We were able to architect and deploy a permanent cloud solution that coexisted with their office’s Microsoft software platform — and also delivered the always-on, always-accessible data the firm needed to do business each day.

First, we carefully assessed Cannon & Dunphy’s workflow, data usage and server needs. Then, we partnered with firm leadership to create a customized migration plan using Google Cloud Platform as the backbone of the firm’s new cloud computing infrastructure. Deployment tools included Google Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Stackdriver Monitoring and Cloud IAM.

Our deployment team extended the firm’s Windows Active Directory Infrastructure and migrated its Windows 2012 SQL Enterprise and Windows 2012 File and Print servers to Google Compute Engine. We then integrated this architecture from the office to Google Cloud Platform. This formed the backbone of the firm’s new cloud computing infrastructure.

Next, we tackled the firm’s need for data accessibility and redundancy in the event of unplanned downtime. For comprehensive backup and disaster recovery with high data availability, we installed Google Cloud Storage, which delivers real-time data protection and cold-line archival storage.

Our engineers also installed the Stackdriver Monitoring agent for Microsoft Windows to provide more detailed logging, alerting and reporting and used Cloud IAM to assign roles and permissions to relevant vendors, partners and employees, and to monitor for access and violations.

Ultimately, our team worked with Cannon & Dunphy’s leadership and IT professionals to transfer 7 TB of the firm’s data to Google Cloud. The client indicated the process involved “excellent planning and service” with “superb follow through.”

At every step, this migration considered the client’s Windows platform. It now provides a secure Google-based cloud solution that supports the firm’s operating system, virtual machines and data.
