Techie Tuesday: A Conversation with Scott Cruze

Our Techie Tuesday series highlights a member of Onix’s technical team, who shares their insights and tips for working in the industry.

In each post, you’ll get a behind the scenes look into what it’s like to work and succeed at a technology company. You’ll also get a glimpse into how they spend their time when they are not working.

This week, Scott Cruze, Director of Cloud Professional Services, joins us. Scott is a newer addition to our team and we’re thrilled to introduce him to you.

What is Your Role at Onix?

I manage and lead our cloud platform consulting practice. This means I am responsible for multiple teams that work directly with our clients. As the Director of Cloud Professional Services, this includes providing oversight and guidance to our consulting team members, practice development and pre-sales support.

We are growing and I get to shape how this will benefit our clients.

What Makes You Excited to Come to Work Each Day?

What initially drew me to Onix is also what motivates me every day. We have a rare combination of great opportunities and a world-class culture that stands out in this industry. I am eager to come to work and be a part of building a cloud professional services organization with such high level professionals.

We are in a growth market — and with success only a few drops of sweat away — this motivates me to wake up each morning with a smile on my face and happy to come to work.

Tell Us About Your Favorite Project.

Recently, I had the opportunity to help out on a project we did with Penn State. We were tasked to find a solution that would recommend social opportunities to students, such as campus clubs, community service, etc. Our Onix consultants created an architecture to gather student data from various sources, consolidate it and use AI/ML to provide suggestions tailored to each student’s interests.

Using technology to solve real world problems that impact people’s everyday lives is what inspires me.

What Do You Like to Do Outside of Work?

First and foremost, I love spending time with my wife and children. Family is very important to me. We find every opportunity to hike and enjoy long road trips to national parks and scenic destinations. Being physically active is also a favorite pastime, I exercise and play sports when not working.

Finally, I enjoy community service. I have participated in several youth growth and development camps.

Share Something You Wish People in the Industry Knew

Cloud platforms are here to stay and are not going away anytime soon. They offer an unprecedented opportunity for businesses to gain insights, increase speed-to-market and offer an overall competitive advantage. And like any tool, once an individual or organization masters a cloud platform, the possibilities are endless and only limited by the imagination.

Any Advice for Someone Looking to Do What You Do?

Learn from those around you. I listen and gain new ideas from personal insights and experience. Just about everyone I’ve come across in my life has shared some unique experience that shaped them and inspired them, which I have then been able to take and apply to my life and career.

Anything Else You'd Like to Share with Our Readers?

This is a real fun fact. I have an identical twin, whose name is Conan and who also works in technology. We are so similar that we arm-wrestled once and it was a tie. In high school, we pulled a practical joke and switched classes. It completely fooled our teachers but our friends knew immediately. Maybe we aren’t all that similar after all!
