If your company is struggling to maintain its rapidly growing amount of data, stressing about utilizing the best analytics and most importantly, concerned about your data’s security, then it’s time to consider using modernized healthcare cloud solutions instead of on-site data centers.

Maybe problems stem from data that’s been “siloed” or separated. Or maybe an influx of data has caused you to seek out more viable solutions for storing data. Whatever the case may be, the demand for cloud technology within the healthcare industry is expanding at a rapid rate.

Before you consider migrating to the cloud, consider some important information.

Benefits of Cloud Computing in Healthcare

With many companies already moving into the healthcare cloud, the marketplace is becoming increasingly competitive. On-premises data centers provide very limited utility compared to data storage in the cloud. On-premise data storage was simply not designed for the vast amounts of data we deal with today, nor can it immediately scale for the advanced analytics needed to help appropriately interpret the data.

In a recent interview with Onix, Healthcare Business Review discussed the benefits of cloud computing in healthcare are reduction of costs, significant increase in security, ability to organize the data away from “data silos”, utilization of custom applications and a nearly unlimited increase in data storage.

Common Issues Companies Face With On-Premise Data Centers

For many businesses within the healthcare industry, the challenging issues with on-premises data centers continue to multiply, leading them to search for much better solutions. In fact, there are three extremely common challenges companies frequently encounter when using on-site data centers that cloud solutions resolve. They include:

1. Security

In healthcare, security of the data is mandatory. The top cloud providers meet critical compliance specifications, like HIPAA, and have made security of their cloud the utmost priority.

2. Interoperability

The ability to rapidly share and access patient data across many different applications is something on-site data centers simply cannot deliver. By using cloud solutions however, interoperability is finally achieved and then is easily sustained. This allows organizations to organize, manage and most importantly, apply their multiple data sets to the benefit of their customers and their own business operations.

3. Scalability

On-premise data storage has limited scalability without engaging in costly and permanent hardware upgrades. With cloud computing, rapidly increasing capacity for data storage or analytics can occur quickly with the flexibility to scale backdown as soon as the need is over. Cloud-based solutions offer immediate and cost-effective scalability and flexibility to save time, money and valuable company resources.

Onix’s Healthcare Cloud Solutions in Practice

An excellent example of success in cloud computing is the work Onix did with the Greater Oregon Behavioral Health, Inc. (GOBHI), a care network providing behavioral health and social services. GOBHI wanted to streamline key processes, like increasing the efficiency, and therefore the capacity, of healthcare providers and automating transactions connected with providing medical transportation.

The major challenge was that the data was located in different “data silos” within an archaic legacy system, making it extremely difficult to even gather the data together to develop operational enhancements.

GOBHI partnered with Onix to organize and store the data in the cloud which provided immediate access to aggregated information to quickly generate operational upgrades. Onix established a HIPAA-compliant  data architecture for GOBHI, which resulted in the ability to rapidly analyze “connected” data sources. This is just one example of how our solutions are designed to help companies perform a structured  and painless digital migration. But we offer plenty more!
