Modular Storage Servers (MSS)
The Cutting Edge MSS is designed
for business data growth and complex storage management in the
data center. The MSS is fully redundant, delivering dual power
supplies and hot-spare drives with virus protection.
The MSS combines flexible
storage expansion with Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial
ATA (SATA) technology to deliver a cost-effective storage system
that can be optimized for either performance or scalable capacity.
The ability to interchange SAS and SATA drives in a server allows
the user to mix drive technologies in the same server, or to
migrate from SATA to SAS (or back) when the user’s requirements
change.
MSS servers are modular
i, making it easy to add storage capacity or additional redundancy
as a company’s
needs increase.
Additionally, drives are hot swappable so that
failing drives can be easily replaced. RAID Levels 0, 1, 5, 6,
50, and JBOD enable the user to use the storage arrays in the manner
that best suits its requirements. MSS can be configured in dual
host and dual RAID configurations, to provide failover protection
and additional redundancy, assuring that mission critical data
is well protected. In addition to the software RAID services provided
by EdgeWare, the MSS also supports hardware RAID adapters.
As with the ISS, the
MSS uses EdgeWare, Cutting Edge’s 64-bit Operating System,
and features multi-core 64-bit processors to control the servers.
EdgeWare provides easy system management, and allows for management
of multiple MSS and/or ISS servers from a single management interface.
The MSS is available
in 1U, 2U, 3U form factors, and can deliver up to 72 TB (using
SAS drives), 240 TB (using SATA drives), or up to 1 petabyte
using a fibre channel switch. Multiple Modular Storage Servers
can be combined, to deliver additional storage capacity to meet
the user’s increasing storage requirements,
while also providing a robust, easily configured platform to support
additional growth.
System performance can be configured to provide
high network throughput. The MSS ships with 2 Gb or 3 GB Ethernet
standard. The network performance can be upgraded to deliver performance
equivalent to 43 GbE.
Flexible connectivity
options include SAS-to-SAS/SATA II or FibreChannel-to-SAS/SATAII.
